1.2 Abbreviations and symbols.

In Subchapters A through K of this chapter:

AFMAFM means airplane flight manual.

AGLAGL means above ground level.

ALSALS means approach light system.

APUAPU means auxiliary power unit.

ASRASR means airport surveillance radar.

ATCATC means air traffic control.

ATSATS means Air Traffic Service.

CAMPCAMP means continuous airworthiness maintenance program.

CASCAS means calibrated airspeed.

CAT IICAT II means Category II.

CHDOCHDO means an FAA Flight Standards certificate holding district office.

CMPCMP means configuration, maintenance, and procedures.

DHDH means decision height.

DMEDME means distance measuring equipment compatible with TACAN.

EASEAS means equivalent airspeed.

EFVSEFVS means enhanced flight vision system.

Equi-Time PointEqui-Time Point means a point on the route of flight where the flight time, considering wind, to each of two selected airports is equal.

ETOPSETOPS means extended operations.

EWISEWIS, as defined by 25.1701 of this chapter, means electrical wiring interconnection system.

FAAFAA means Federal Aviation Administration.

FFSFFS means full flight simulator.

FMFM means fan marker.

FSTDFSTD means flight simulation training device.

VVEFEF means the speed at which the critical engine is assumed to fail during takeoff.

VVFF means design flap speed.

VVFCFC/MMFCFC means maximum speed for stability characteristics.

VVFEFE means maximum flap extended speed.

VVFTOFTO means final takeoff speed.

VVHH means maximum speed in level flight with maximum continuous power.

VVLELE means maximum landing gear extended speed.

VVLOLO means maximum landing gear operating speed.

VVLOFLOF means lift-off speed.

VVMCMC means minimum control speed with the critical engine inoperative.

VVMOMO/MMMOMO means maximum operating limit speed.

VVMUMU means minimum unstick speed.

VVNENE means never-exceed speed.

VVNONO means maximum structural cruising speed.

VVRR means rotation speed.

VVREFREF means reference landing speed.

VVSS means the stalling speed or the minimum steady flight speed at which the airplane is controllable.

VVSS00 means the stalling speed or the minimum steady flight speed in the landing configuration.

VVSS11 means the stalling speed or the minimum steady flight speed obtained in a specific configuration.

VVSRSR means reference stall speed.

VVSRSROO means reference stall speed in the landing configuration.

VVSRSR11 means reference stall speed in a specific configuration.

VVSWSW means speed at which onset of natural or artificial stall warning occurs.

VTOSSTOSS means takeoff safety speed for Category A rotorcraft.

VVXX means speed for best angle of climb.

VVYY means speed for best rate of climb.

VV11 means the maximum speed in the takeoff at which the pilot must take the first action (e.g., apply brakes, reduce thrust, deploy speed brakes) to stop the airplane within the accelerate-stop distance. V11 also means the minimum speed in the takeoff, following a failure of the critical engine at VEFEF, at which the pilot can continue the takeoff and achieve the required height above the takeoff surface within the takeoff distance.

VV22 means takeoff safety speed.

VV2min2min means minimum takeoff safety speed.

VFRVFR means visual flight rules.

VGSIVGSI means visual glide slope indicator.

VHFVHF means very high frequency.

VORVOR means very high frequency omnirange station.

VORTACVORTAC means collocated VOR and TACAN.
